I have a 1988 Ford Ranger 2.9, manuel tran. I smell coolant and it usually overheats about then. The other day it stopped running until it cooled down. Have changed the thermostat, don't see a leak, do loose some coolant. No indication that it is going into oil. OMG! help.

you might have a air pocket some were in the system, may be a clogged radiator...buy a flush tee kit...$6 and try flushing the system.next i would go to autozone and rent a radiator pressue tester for the day.hook it to the cap first, test to see if it holds pressure.then make sure radiator is full then pressure test the cooling system.only apply the same pressure as the cap, look for leaks if you cant find any i would pull all the spark plugs and check the plugs.if any of them are whiter then the others that cylinder has a head gasket leak or you could have a cracked head.
