So I had a hose go out on me last thursday. Needless to say I saw my check gauge and was able to get it into a gas station with the needle pegged on Hot. pretty much all of the coolent came out so I was able to fix it and replaced the hose. Truck seems to run fine and doesnt feel like its lost any power or anything. I am just curiouse if there are any self tests I can do just to make sure nothing got really damaged. I am pretty pissed because I just replaced my upper and lower rad hoses and never replaced this smaller hose while I was at it.

Also as a worse case scenareo, what can go wrong?

Since the transmission cooler is built into the radiator, you may have overheated the trans too. I would change the transmission fluid.

Check your oil for coolant. If you wanted to get indepth with it, get a kit for testing coolant.

If it's not overheating, no oil in coolant, no coolant loss, not missing, and it's not (smoking and smelling sweet), you're probably OK.

A compression or leakdown test is also called for. The PCM won't detect excessive blow-by from a scored cylinder. Though it's unlikely to be an issue if your vehicle isn't consuming more oil than it used to.

okay thanks for the responses. I will check these things over the next few days. From the momment I noticed it was over heating I had it shut off in less than 5-10 seconds.

I was luckily in an area that I was able to shut the truck down immediatly. I have since gone and flushed the coolent system and replaced the hose that failed. I will check the oil and transmission fluid for coolent or any abnormal wear. I will also do a compression test and see how things turn out.
