i just put a 97 explorer console in my ranger it looks great. everything works good. but the fact that it is not reading the right temp. it reading 7 degress outside but its 40 something. the senor i have is made a brass. does it matter what kinda senor it is. if so can someone that has put one in before that has got it work right tell the right senor to get. may be send a picture of what it looks like. thanks

It is regestering Celcius. As far as I know, 4c is about 40/41f.

I would think there'd be a setting or button on it somewhere. Maybe on the back/top where you can't see it?

You have to use a sensor made for a 97 Explorer. Going to check part number at work tomorrow.

i've been thinkin about doing that to my truck.. maybe this summer. this guy -> http://www.cardomain.com/ride/296394/3 put the console in, as well as a keyless entry which is pretty cool. he also explains everything step by step.

it really wasnt that much work put i added eight toggle switches it and a few other things. i will have a few pic when i get my truck back from the shop. (had a wreck let the insureance take care it right now.) my truck is 02. supercab

Did the explored you got the OHC out of have an EATC? If it did, it is quite possible you got the wrong sensor.....the EATC has an outside air temp sensor that is right next to the OHC sensor.....

Could also be that you have the wrong setting in your OHC.....when I get off my iPhone I will post up calibration pic for you an installed pictures for Jim....

I was wondering how the temp gauge wires up and also what i looks like and where to find it im going junk yard hoping tomorrow

Thanks cody

here are my installed pictures.....hardest part is cutting the headliner and making the slots in the roof support of the cab for the front console clips to go into....other than that it is cake to wire up..

any '95-'01 Explorer OHC (Over Head Console) will work easily as long as it isn't the one that has the sun roof button on it....the sun roof button ones are harder to install since the rear portion is supported by the headliner, not the bracket...

this is Ford's calibration instructions for the temp portion:
hold down the "MODE" button for about 3-5 seconds till it comes up with a single number, then find which zone you are in from the picture below and push the "MODE" button till that number appears....then let it switch back to normal (it will do it automatically after setting for a couple seconds)....

here is a GREAT how to that 99.9% of members of www.ranger-forums.com follow to install their OHC's...

This is the Install portion:

This is the wiring portion:

if you search around that Car Domain site, you will see that there is numerous other GREAT mods like the EATC, all auto power windows, and LED light installs....

when i got mine off the Explorer, I got the plastic plug....i then found a hole in my core support, pushed the plug into it and zip tied it to the core support.....make sure the side without the wires is facing foward...
