when the trans. is cold, it takes forever for it to shift into overdrive. but once it does, it usually shifts into OD quite easy. Does anyone know what the deal is?

Governor weights vs shift valve (throttle valve) in thick fluid. Lazy overdrive. There are governor weight kits to fix this common problem. Just my 2 cents. I'm no expert though.

I'm not positive, but I think the computer might actually be telling the trans to not shift into OD until it has reached operating tempertature. If that's the case, then it's normal.
