Overdrive Blues

Recently bought a 97 ranger 3.0, with auto tranny. The overdrive on/off button does not work. Cant take it out of overdrive. Any info would be very helpful.

mine is the same! I read on another site that it might be the switch itself, havent gotten around to trying to test it just yet. is this harmful in any way? just regular driving nothing intense ever. I also notice that when it shifts from 3-4 or 4-3 i get some vibration just as it changes gears. it never did this before, the truck has 77k on it
