Out of ideas

My truck is finally running to where I'm satisfied. I finally readjusted the timing and plugged in the Spout Connector (running good with it). On that note, the engine still putters somewhat. I'm just curious to what the hell it could be. I have readjusted the timing, replaced the distributor (twice), the cap, button, wires, plugs, coil, o2 sensor, and ignition module (three times). I don't know what else could make it do that. Any ideas mate?

The obvious start is to see if the computer is aware something's up. Run KOEO and repair the problems in order until it passes. After that, move onto KOER and do the same thing. Don't jump to the conclusion that a code condemns a part. It tells you what type of problem it sees, and you follow a troubleshooting sequence from there to narrow down the source. That requires a little patience and reading, but you'll learn in the process and save yourself a lot of money.

+1

Vacuum gauge can also guide in seeing if the engine has any underlying problems that are tricky to pin point - like sticky valves or a vacuum leak for instance.

Does it do that when it's both warm and cold? What exactly is it doing?

Pete

I can't tell you if it does it while it's warm. I just switched out the distributor yesterday (for the third time) and it definitely did it when I first started it up. I took off right afterwards though and it ran fine. I didn't let it idle to hear it after I drove it for a while. It just jumps around it seems (nothing REAL noticeable), but if you set and listen to it you can just hear a small miss. I ran codes on it a week ago and the only code that came up was the piece in the distributor. As soon as I hit the gas though it's done and runs like a mother ha, it's awesome I'm still stoked on it running (was broke down for quite a few days).

its rather unlikely that there is a problem with the timing chain. what was the code # that you got when you swapped out the distributor?

Thank you

It was either code 22 or code 14, I can't remember exactly because one was a mix up. I know that must not be much help.

Also I still have to take out the Spout Connector. I plugged it in for about 20 miles, and then took it out to see the difference (drove it for about ten miles); the difference was with it being unplugged it had more power and just overall sounded and ran better. It is still unplugged right now because I also noticed it getting a little hot while being plugged in (just looked at the overflow and the water has risen four or five inches to the top; maybe it wasn't getting hot but I figured that was a give away).

I figured that this had something to do with the timing, but, I've had several people with timing lights test it and the timing is 'dead on' (one being a garage just to prove to myself it isn't that).

On that note, I've also noticed that it has a little hesitation starting (almost like a starter going bad; it just catches for a split second then continues to start). I can't figure this one out either, because I've replaced many parts that could make it do that. I appreciate any help I can get on these problems.

Thank you,

Cody
