Our dog died last night :(

Ahh, Jim I'm sorry to hear it, he was such a good dog from what I saw. All pets are family. Once your a part of their pack, your a part of it for good, and they are a part of yours just as much.

I hope Vanessa and yourself are doing okay, I know If my Annie were to go I'd probably have to take a day or two off work.

Let me know if Theres anything Kiera or I can do. Kiera loves Ann more than she loves me, so if Vanessa needs another girl to talk to have her give her a call.

Jim, Patty and I send our condolences for your loss. We lost our black lab last fall after 15.5 years. Patty and I held as she left.. damn, damn hard thing to do but somtimes you have no choice. We feel lucky to have at least met your pup. (doesn't matter how old they are, always a pup). Lee and Patty

Jim, so sorry to hear that. My GF and I are moving next week and we'll be able to bring my dog at the new place. We're so excited to have her around, and I'm dreading the day we'll have to go through this.

Thanks everyone for your kind words.

Really truthfully sorry to hear this Jim. All I could do while reading this was get choked up while thinking about my dog. I'd cry like a baby if I was in your shoes.

Stay strong man.

I am so sorry for you and Vanessa, my wife and I send our condolences. I know she was a good dog and I'm glad I got to meet her. I'm just a phone call away if you need someone to talk to. RIP Montanna.

Jim, Vanessa I am so sorry for you loss. as I read this post tears filled my eyes and a deep sadness filled my heart. I found this poem and Hope it makes the both of you smile. With love, Lance and Brandy

HEAVEN'S DOGGY-DOOR

My best friend closed his eyes last
night, As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.

The thoughts that scurried through
my head, As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.

Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.

But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a 'doggy-door"!

Sorry about your loss Jim. Look like a great dog to have :bawling:

My mom sent this to me a long time ago, I think it is perfect.
Dog's Purpose (from a 6-year-old).

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker.

The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker,

and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker,

and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe

the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm,

petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes,

Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a

while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.

Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, 'I know why.'

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, 'People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?'

The six-year-old continued, 'Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.'

I'm so sorry for your and your wife's loss, Jim. :(

Rest is paradise, Montanna.

The same thing happened to one of my good friends dogs. He was a yellow lab named Sam that looked alot like your dog. He died of the same thing about 3 months ago. Sam was 21 years old. I basically grew up with that dog, he was so big you could honestly ride him if you weighed under 100 pounds. He loved water and loved to swim in the Mississippi River which isn't far from my friends house. After he died, we built him a little doggy boat and sent him out one last time on the Mighty Mississippi (not sure if that is legal or not but we thought it was fitting). There is not doubt that a dog is a man's (or woman's) best friend.

I know how you feel Jim. My mom's dachshund died last November and I still haven't got over it.

Jim and Vanessa:

I am so very sorry for your loss. It's pretty clear to me that Montanna was well-loved. And I'm very sure he knew it too, animals are very perceptive.

Take comfort in that.
