OUR 1st Ranger

Somebody put a little money into it before you got it. Have to say doesn't look like a bad pre-runner.

Yeah need's alot of tlc though,Shock rebuild etc. I'm not into the black & white either. So i'm going to satin Black the whole thing and put gloss black graphics on it. I also plan on removing the bed and just welding up fender hangers or at least romoving the fender well's for now. Thank you I'll post more soon.

I can only imagine how hard the engine was ran before you got it due to it being a pre-runner.

Those 456 gears made a big difference from the 411's so i imagine when i go from the 33BFG to the 29" paddle it's gonna be a big difference too. Should be perfect to keep High RPM through the dunes.

I'm new to pre-runners, but a word of advice.

I also have the 4.0L engine. I need to regear my rear cuz I'm spinning 31's at 3.08 ratio. It works fine on flat surface, but when I start out in first gear on a hill you can hear it. I think just from personal experience that your RPM's with 4.56 might be too high while spinning those 29 inch paddles. Just my personal opinion. The 4.0L prior to SOHC handles low end torque very well.

Well all the driving so far is perfect. You gotta think 40 to 50 mph thru the dunes is ripping. Especially with your family aboard. So since it's for the sand 99% of the time. My thought is. This motor makes all it's torque & HP at 4200 RPM so i want to be at or around that rpm all the time. Speed, RPM and low air pressure in your tires makes a light vehicle like this float on top of the sand perfect. So i should be able to leave it in third a rip thru the dunes. This is only a two wheel drive and the inch and a half tall paddles will likely lug the motor the same as my 33x12.50's trying to move that sand and push the front wheels in the sand. Just my two% though. I've been camping in pismo 15 years now, I think it's going to be awesome. The cage is taking more time than i thought but either way it will be at pismo for thanksgiving week. If any one else is going let's circle the wagon's.

Finally got to take it to pismo on thanksgiving. It did great, but the clutch fan was out. So it heated up a bit, but we were lucky because it was sold cold there. The front shox were compleatly wore out so we took it easy, still 4th gear 4200rpm in the flats though. It's been in the garage since, so i just pulled it out replaced the clutch fan and thermastat
I just had the shox compleatly rebuilt rechromed the shafts custom valving, I called FOX and they were kind enuff to send me all new decals so they look shap, I'll post more pics as i load them, Feels good to be working on the truck again
