so as some know as I posted I had a cracked exhaust manifold and y pipe and got them off with snapping all drivers side studs, my mechanic drilled them all and tapped for 150, in July had order a set of pacesetter headers for it, well after 4 weeks at garage finally went to put them on right side went on fine, but drivers side didn't fit it was sitting on driveshaft well called and he said he would return them. since they had ordered the 2wd ones and not the 4wd ones and now says he can't return them since I scratched them... and he would let me have the others at cost! which I was told was 170. and I paid 220. and he would try selling them for me! ok great. so I offered this to him let me know what you think? since he made 50 on the set I bought and he would let me have the others at 170. that he should let me have them for 120 and anything above that is his and I get my additional money back! thoughts? personally he should eat it. :annoyed:

If he screwed up and sent you the wrong part that's his fault. If he had good business practices he would apologize for sending you the wrong part and replace it with the proper ones

re:

he ordered them I picked them up and I tried to install them and scratched them up. so he is claiming I damaged them and he can't return them

Scratches dont hurt anything it sounds like he is just jacking you around because he F`d up. Or he is just playing you and gonna sell them as new and make his profit three times I can guarantee his mark up is more than $50. I would pay him the difference if any between the two and thats it. If he cant do that get your money back and go elsewhere.

Yeah if he ordered the wrong part then its his fault because you were under the assumption that it was the right part and it wasn't. Which is why when it didn't fit it got scratched up and its still his fault. Make him fix his problem.

i think that if a shop orders a part for you then they should be the one to install it. if you tried and damaged it then i think that it is your fault. if you want to let them go at a good price ill take them if they are for 2.9

If he ordered the wrong ones he should take it back.

But if you beat the heck out of them, it isn't his fault you have a non-returnable part. Try a light coat with a rattle can if it really is just scratched.

update

I'm starting to drink now, anyone want to join me... so I bit the bullet and got the next set of headers and I notice the box says 88-90 and question the guy and he looks it up and says the computer screen says it will fit an 87 so I get it home and guess what!? it doesn't match up to the cat! I could of sworn that the 2wd ones did... so I call pacesetter and they do not make it for an 87! so I told him about the story of the 2wd ones and there is no reason unless they have been run and bent not to go back! so called the shop and told them they would take them and he was calling pacesetter to get rga number and returning them. wow what a concept to call and ask! :icon_idea: :bawling:

so it looks like the only ones to make them is JBA and the are SS :shok: $669 through summit

well I'm going to drink now! thanks for letting me vent!

if he had ordered the right thing in the first place you wouldnt have scratched them. If a semi truck driver gets hit by a drunk driver and his logs show him out of time, then he is at fault. If he had been parked like his logs said he shoulda been he wouldnt have been in that spot to get hit. This is how the courts will view it. (not that im saying take him to court, just an example)

okay so this thought hits me as I'm waiting for pizza! so if the headers will fit an 88-89 ranger/bronco II. out side of a new cat, which I could use anyways :-) how much difference is there between the 87 and 88/89? would they install? anyone? and if if the difference is the cat, I'm wondering if I go to someone that does custom exhaust and see if I can just use straight pipe. (I know not legal) but cheap! :-)

thoughts?

Maybe if the difference is just how the cat hooks up to the header you could either replace them with later model cats (if the end of the header isn't the same shape as the cats) or try to adjust the position of the cat if it's an alignment issue. Do you know which problem you have?

For inexpensive catalytic converters there's a website that someone posted a while back that sells them for about $40 but I can't remember the name of it. Maybe someone will chime in with a link.
