Ordered my system

Well I finally got to ordering that sound system for the truck.

Ended up buying a Pioneer DEH 1100MP, Sound Storm SSLF F2.20 2 channel amp, and a Sound Storm F1200M mono sub amp, powering some Rockford prime R1652-S 6 1/2" components and a single rockford Prime R1S410 10" sub. Got everything for a little over 300$.

Now the next few steps are to get the old system out, make measurements for the sub box (which is also going to house the sub amp), as well as figure out where to mount the tweeters.

I do have a few questions about that though.

I've been wanting to mount the tweeters up in the front corners of the cab, but then i read on here that its best to keep them as near to the speaker as possible. Is this true?

I'm also worried a bit about the amps not getting enough cooling behind the seats. I'm not going to be running them anywhere near their max power, but should i consider hooking up some cooling fans anyway? (and where on the circuit should i hook those fans up?)

Is there an alternative to dynamat that i can use for sound dampening? I dont really feel like shoving out another 100$ for a while trunk kit, but i cant seem to find anything smaller. I was just thinking of covering the inside of the doors with some, as well as covering the sub box and the back wall of the cab.

I'm probably going to need to buy a new battery as well. Any suggestions for some affordable batts?

placing the tweeters as close to the speakers will ensure that the sound waves get to you as close to the same time as possible... so it sounds better.

are you going to notice the difference between 6 inches from the driver and a foot or two? probably not.... put them where you can get them installed.

do you have a single cab or an extended cab? either way the cooling should be fine... especially since you won't be putting out their full power. just make sure that there is as much space between them as possible, especially right outside the exhaust port

sound dampening... there are a ton of brands out there. i've heard fatmat is decent. i've also heard of people using like roofing tar or something like that...

i'd encourage it for the doors, but as far as the back of the cab, you'll probably be alright without it, especially since you'll have carpet behind the box too right? are you carpeting the box? and the thicker mdf you use, the less you'll have the need for sound dampening, i believe.

They real key, that you will find on the various internet sources, is to attempt to keep all of the speakers as close to the same distance from you as possible.

Crutchfields had a good article on this back in the day explaining kick panel speakers vs dash mount...

Just puttin this out there, you probably wont be happy with those amps. There very cheaply made and are worse than dual. But hey if it works for you congrats.

Oh and I strongly recommend fatmat for sound dampening. I used it in every square in e of my truck and my sound system sounds like a beast.

And I have a worked v8 with two 2 1/2 flowmaster 40s dumping right behind the cab and it's pretty quiet in the cab considering.

I've also tried quick roof. You get it at the local home improvement center. It's not as dense as fatmat, but for 15$ a roll. It's hard to beat. It's in the roofing/insulation isle.

I have a single cab, so was worried a bit about cooling in that small area, and yeah I'll be carpeting the box as well.

As for the amps, the OEM crap they give me is barely audible at highway speeds and its fuzzy whenever its over 1/2 volume. The new amps may not be all that good in quality, but I'm sure it'll be a huge improvement over the stock stuff. (I'll probably save up for some better amps in the future anyway).

(what would you recommend as far as quality (affordable) amps would go?)

even with an upgraded stereo and speakers i ripped the factory amp out my my 98. it sucks bad.

and for the amps, what kind of rms power do you want, whats your budget?

give me those two and ill find you some really nice amps.

Well i wouldn't push more than 250watts rms to the sub, and 50 per speaker. If you can find some quality amps for less than 100$ each, I'll buy. But not anytime soon. Gotta wait a little, since i just dropped 300$ on this whole system

A 4 or 5 channel amp would work better for you then. Price wise it would be cheaper. I'll look tomoro for you.

If I do a 5 channel, i could always throw some 6x9's in the mix as well....hmmmm

That P500 looks good. with 4 channels i could run some 6x9's as well. but wouldnt i need to keep my current sub amp?

well you would run the front speakers off the two channels, then bridge the other two channels to run your sub.

Didnt know you could do that....plus it adds much possibilities for bigger sub :icon_twisted:......

Though I'm not looking into having overpowering bass. I'd like a nice, balanced sound. Even so, I don't think I'll be upgrading the truck much more past this point. This one's just meant to last me through college, or at least until I save up enough for a new(er) car.

Whatever floats your boat man. If you have any questions just let me know.
