i got prices for both the detroit and lock right and they are both higher then i thought they would be

U.S 600 and 300 respectively
canada 900 and 500

thats alittle steep if u ask me. now iv wheeled in my b2 with the stock trac lock and gone places that big modified rigs go and back. now my b2 had 31's. my ranger now sits on 35's...

my cheaper plan was to get a l/s carrier. replace the clutch pack so it goes steel/clutch/steel/clutch.. then install. (i got a diff guy that will do for beer)

my issue is if it will handle the torque produced by the massive tires.

any thoughts?

what axles are you running? DD? If not Id weld up the spiders in the rear. my aussie ran me a few hundred up front, thats less than both your quoted prices unless that includes install....

I have no personally knowledge but our dollar is like at par...so there shouldn't be that big of price difference...maybe a bit more for shipping and stuff. Limited slip wears out doesn't it? And lockers don't really per say...someone correct me if i am wrong

order a locker form the states. The l/s will work good for a while...but IT WILL wear out. And remember, it is a LIMITED slip, meaning with one leg cocked in the air its useless. If you have the funds get a detroit. If not then get a lockright, I love mine and daily drive it.

Dweano...the springs on both a detroit and lockright will wear out eventually, but it is a LOCKER, and if they do wear out (say in a couple years) then its a super easy/cheap fix to change them out.

im just not sure what it will cost to get it here. with duty and crap!

the lock right on just differentials . com is $340 with shipping thats $380. about to where i am in alberta.

i found it cheaper on another site but it had bad reviews.

im in saskatoon....and i had front and rear gears, master install kits for both, and a lockright for the rear shipped for like 65$, and it cost me 80$ in duty, but mind you that was on almost 1000$ worth of stuff.

I buy my stuff from justdifferentials.com as well.

900 for a Detroit is outrageous. I payed just over 600 for mine plus shipping from them.

Just as Jeramey to ship USPS to save some of the fees. That is how he shipped my stuff to BC.

i got my Detroit here in the For Sale forum, used but in great shape, for $200 + shipping. i had already paid that much for a new l/s but bought the Detroit and had it installed with the new gears instead. love it! and i love getting it for cheap here at TRS!!! now i just need a buyer for my l/s!

so if i get a limited slip like an auburn if i lift a tire the l/s becomes useless?

Lunchbox lockers are by far the easiest to install, cheaper, and best way under a budget to improve off-road traction greatly.

the guy i talked to said that lock rights and the such break very often and often need to be cut out the of the diff they are installed in. hence why they dont sell them.

thoughts?

The problem with the stock L/S is when you hang a tire or put one on ice it unloads the axle gears and takes pressure off the clutches.Which makes a open feel as one tire turns.I have a Lock Right in front and I wouldn't want one in the back it makes clicking noise kinda annoying.

I have a L/S in the back and I like it but with the lockright in front I get hung up rarely. If your going to be a serious 4 wheeler though you need a locker in the back.

im function or form any day. my rig can attest to that. so would going to a lunchbox be the right move for now? im just worried about it breaking. i can handle the noise. my stereo is usually turned up anyways.
