Anyone ever dealt with the online tranny stores on ebay? I've got a couple quotes from 2 and the way they talk I can't go wrong. I'm just wondering if anyone has anything positive or negative to say about them? The 2 that I've been "dealing" with are:

Santantrans out of Queens Creek, AZ they have a rebuilt tranny for $629.00 plus $150.00 for shipping. Has a 30 month warranty with unlimited mileage.

The other one is: 1stoptransmission out of Peoria, AZ they have a rebuilt tranny for $535.00 plus $150.00 shipping. Has a 24 month unlimited mileage warranty. They claim everyone else buys from them!

Just wondering if anyone has dealt with these guys before. I'm thinking about getting a tranny just to keep on hand. As stated in previous posts, my tranny has issues....a little bump between 1st and 2nd...and the fluid is way too dark. Not slipping or anything..(knock on wood). Just thought I'd buy one to have ready when/if I needed one.

Still haven't decided if I want to flush my tranny. I've always went by the old saying....if it isn't broke...don't fix it!

dont know about those tranny places...but that saying does apply to you. Your tranny is broke, so you should fix it. If it bumps like you say and the fluid is dark, time to do something about it. Ive always gone by the saying...better be safe than sorry.

With them wanting that kind of money for those, why don't you check with some of your local transmission shops and see if they will rebuild yours for that.

no experience with them, can they supply a client list of satisfied customers?

one thing about your analogy.....changing the fluid isnt fixing...it is NECESSARY MAINTENANCE that generally does not happen correctly and is why your trans is now ready for rehash verse a simple fluid change...the dont fix aint broke for some reason is more out of site out of mind ....to the point many transmissins are sealed now with no customer fill check provisions.
:annoyed:

I appreciate the responses guys...first let me say....I've only has this truck for couple weeks now. The tranny apparently was abused by the previous owners. When I saw the dark fluid, the 1-1/2in overfill and the little bump between 1st and 2nd....my first thought was....drain and flush the tranny. Then I got online and found both pros and cons about that...also, local tranny guy who is very experienced and knows...said not to change it. Said to run it till it quit. So, I was left with a decision on which to do. Honestly it's running equally both ways....change / not change. So, I'm thinking getting another to keep on stand by as I know as some point the tranny is going. Right now it isn't slipping or anything...just the little bump and the dark fluid. I'm thinking that at least I need to change filter and replenish lost fluid in doing that. That way I would be half right either way! LOL

Your local tranny guy just wants it to die quicker so he gets money. Change the fluid. It can only help.

Because people were doing it wrong and ended up with 1-1/2" over full.

In one aspect you are right about the tranny guy. But I have seen the fluid changed in a transmission that had over 100,000 with not one problem before the fluid change be fine and then it goes bad when it had been serviced.

Drop the pan to inspect for abnormal debris. Change the filter. Look at the edge of the valve body for blown out gaskets and refill to the correct level at normal temp. If it was slipping I would say Don't change the fluid BUT you say there is a bump or harsh shift which could be caused by fluid deterioration. When shifting to 2nd gear the intermediate band holds the forward drum.

SMTGREG I believe I will take your advice and at least check pan and change filter and replace lost fluid. Is there an adjustment on the intermediate bands?

I have used http://www.southwestgear.com/ before with good results. They have a store on ebay that I purchased my standard transmission parts from. I am not sure if they sell any auto parts or not. They included a little spring clip that I was missing as well for no charge when I bought some bearings from them.

i never do feel sorry to people who have that happen to them. If it was maintained once every 2 years as it should have been, wouldn't have been a problem. Not trying to be nasty or anything just saying.

Headed out in a bit to change the filter and fluid in the tranny. Was wondering what I need to refill with. I've got high mileage fluid w/conditioner, regular fluid, and I got a bottle of Lucas. Of course Mercon type. Also....since my fluid is motor oil colored, should I do a complete flush? With the filter change I'll only change 3 qts. I have a couple options to do the complete flush....take it to a service station who charges $90.00 or do it myself...cost of fluid only. I would probably put a drain plug in the pan. Take the line loose at the cooler and pump out 3 qts at a time until fluid has been completely changed. Unsure of how many quarts it would take, but...I don't think it would take 30 qts, which would equal the cost at the service station. Walmart has fluid under $3.00 a quart. Not sure at what point I would replace filter. At start or end? Any suggestions???

You'll go through a bunch of the new stuff before it get's the old out but I think it's worth it in the long run. Just be careful not to run it dry or too low.

I just bought a transmission from 1stop. They communicate well and seem to know what they are talking about.

Before I purchased, I looked at their feedback and even emailed a few of the users to see if the transmission was still holding up. Every single one said the transmission was working well and had no complaints.

Mine just arrived today. I can unwrap it and take some pics, if you'd like.
