I have the tranny and transfer case out to do a clutch job and I figured this would be a good time to throw in a one piece driveshaft. I read the article in the tech libray and it seems like it is written with lifted trucks in mind. My truck is a stock 91 ext cab, 4x4, manual tranny and transfer case, and a 4.0.
My question is will I have clearance issues on a stock truck if I do this swap?

Nope, none at all.

You'll actually have less to worry about than those with lifted trucks...

Just install. You might only need a flange. You will love it so much more without that stupid vibration.

When you say flange, you mean the end of the d/s or the end of the trans?

Will a d/s from a 99 2wd truck work?

No, not on a 4WD.

If you get a '98-'00 steel 4WD shaft, you shouldn't need to swap the flange on the back of the t-case.

Exactly...which will have a 2.5" spacing between the holes on the front flange, and 3" spacing on the rear flange. :icon_thumby:

Cool. Thanks for the info guys. I'll start the hunt and let everyone know how it turns out.

Anyone got a rear driveline from a 98 or newer, ext cab, 4x4 ranger for sale in the vicinity of Tacoma, WA? Or know of one for sale?

You can also use a 2001-05 Explorer Sport Trac 4x4 rear shaft. It is the same as the 98-00 steel ranger shaft.
