since i have bought my b2 i notice some chatter in the trans, now today when i was driving the trans stopped going into gear. so this is what i noticed. i really need some help finding the problem.

when you start it and push the clutch peddle in you have to leave your foot on it for itll jump and stall out as if it were in gear.
itll drive in neutral (N) but seems as if it were in a high gear, like somewhere in 4th or 5th gear.
The stick goes in all the gears, 1st through 5th and reverse but wont catch and will not drive in those gears only neutral.

can anyone help me on this, its a serious damper on me. considering i am a full time student and this is my only transportation. i love the hell out of my B2. if someone can help id greatly appreciate it.
also can anyone tell me if this is gonna cost heftily.

thanks guys
john

Chattering might be the the syncros. I don't do transmissions, but ide say make sure the linkage for your shifter isn't mangled, and check yer tranny fluid and change it if it looks bad.

You hear some chatter, and once shit breaks you try to investigate what is the matter?
Perhaps not the best course of action, but the route taken none the less...

It sounds like you have blown your clutch.
Typically speaking, if a manual tranny will not properly change gears, or disengage the tranny and go into neutral, your clutch is ****ed in the bum.

sounds like a bad clutch. does the pedal have pressure? check the fluid for the clutch too. the chattering could be a badly worn pressure plate/flywheel/clutch disc

if you can change the gears when engine is not running then i would say clutch but if it stays in a high gear after you try that its prolby as synco/ shifter prob

Wait guys, he said that it is moving the tuck in neutral, as if the tranny never found neutral. I had a similar problem, but it was not as extreme. I could not turn my rear driveshaft with the truck in neutral while it was completely off the ground. It would turn the motor over at a 1:1 ratio. What happened was the bearings were shot. I did a fluid change and am still using the tranny, but it is pretty much done for now. You need a new transmission.

sweet! sarcastically speaking.

thats what i thought. well i guess thats all i needed to know. now gotta go out and find another M5OD.
does anyone know of any other trannys i could plop back in this SOB. Preferably a Manual.
i looked for a little bit. but a quick reply would be nice also.

thanks guys

You really should put an M5OD back in it, as it's the toughest tranny that bolts in.

Make SURE you use the proper ATF in the tranny. Mine has this problem because someone put gear oil in it. I would not be surprised if that is what is in yours.

The shifter could be the cause also. Check the shifter to make sure it is tightly bolted on and not loose up and down. May have worked loose and not completely engaging inside.

ya you were right, some asshole did put gear lube in it, which ate the tranny up in a quick minute, by the looks of the trans, it seems like they did it recently also. anyways so now i need to grab a tranny, clutch (since i ate that away trying to get it back to my place) and a slave cylinder.

sounds like a load of fun, and a hell of alot of money hahaha.

but anyways i thought id let you guys know.
anyone in michigan (mainly the thumb, flint, detroit, saginaw area with a M50D tranny within my price range and in working, shifting order. shoot me a line. haha

thanks again.

I thought I read on this forum to use gear oil in a manual tranny???
