Take a look at peoples experiences with AVM/Rugged Ridge hubs..... They're not good...many go through them. Internal pieces are plastic. Though it is good though, they are the weakest link before the CV breaks. But they're problemmatic just like the PVH system in 98-99(and some 00) Rangers. There's a reason ford ditched the PVH and went with the tried and true Live Axle/Permanently engaged setup on 00+ trucks taken from the 95+ Explorer...
Ford tests showed very very very very minimal mileage loss with the live axle setup.
The diff doesn't matter.....doesn't have anything to do with the hubs..they're all the same(the axle itself). What does matter are the CV shafts, wheel bearings(and in turn the hubs), and knuckles.
I don't know if you're able to run PVH bearings + AVM hub(98-00) on a Live Axle knuckle(00.5+), or vice versa. Havn't dug too far into it to actually bolt on a Live Axle unibearing to an 98-99 hub. I think you can run the 98-99 parts on a 00+ knuckle....but am unsure. Superlifted a 98, 01, and 07 and I THINK you can. Removal of the hose barbs and fittings on the PVH parts would be required, but you can bolt on the manual hubs.
If I were you, I'd go live axle and use 03+ knuckles, that way you can run the larger brakes up front. And live axle is proven not to fail and a whole lot easier to work on.
