My plan fell thru using a Summit kit with my '78 302, that came with the pan, gasket, sump, main cap stud and dipstick for $100. It was a kit to put a newer engine in a older vehicle not the other way around.

Just the pan itself is $90 at the local parts store, plus all the extra stuff I would need. I have two dual sump pans without the dipstick, and I have seen where other people have added the dipstick to them before. Since I can't get a package deal of what I need I figure I might as well try this route.

I need to know where to get the black part (and maybe a dipstick/tube too) and how high to mount it from the bottom of the pan.

You can buy the dipsticked dual sump pans at the local parts houses. You're looking for a 79 Mustang pan here. That one will definately have the dual sump/dipstick pan.

That main cap stud is also somewhat "priceless" to many who find theirselves needing one.

summit sells a ford racing pan kit $100 has everything even the sump gasket! Used it 3 years ago and worked great. so good that i have another ford racing pan kit on my 408!

I also have this problem with a 79' 302 from a T-Bird.. any chance you could send link of the summit kit? or any other full kit that will work?

I think that's the kit he said he bought and didn't work. The hole shown in the side is for the oil level switch. It's not made for the early block with the dip stick going into the pan. Baddad gave you what you need to get. I was going to pull up something from NAPA but their site is down.

That is it, it is to put basically to put a crate motor with the dipstick in the block into a 79-95 Mustang. It doesn't help me at all, and that is the only kit I have been able to dig up so far.

That isn't a hole, it is glare off of an indention... I thought it was the boss for the dipstick when I ordered it.

I did price a pan at Carquest, they have to order it from the factory... to the tune of $104 for the pan + freight. Kinda sad when I could have had all that and more for under $100 from Ford Racing. I still need everything else in that Summit kit aside from the pan itself.

If it fits your application, the Summit kit did impress me, everything looked very well made... just poorly discribed. It says it fits a 289/302 and has a provision for a dipstick... but only fits 83-01 production blocks, since 289's died in the late 60's why even mention them? If it would work it would be a 289 crank in a later 302 block...

I only paid $10 for the one dipstickless pan, I might try to get my dad to braze a tube into it and make something work.

The 83 to 01 thing is inserted there cause it has no dipstick provision in the pan. 83 was about when Ford moved the dipstick to the block.

Looked on O'Reilly's site. Vendor is Spectra, part number is FP11C. Dipstick in the pan. 1979 Mustang with a 5.0

Why mention a 289? And say there is a provision for a dipstick? The whole discription is messed up.

Sorry but ever just want to go out and bark at the moon? Maybe bang your head against an engine block?

Yea, I did last Friday night, but it was snowing too hard to see the moon. :icon_rofl: And I did want to bang an engine block. But with a 44 mag using the 07 International truck I was driving till it decided to not restart after fueling. F--KING EPA emission rules ! Internationals are bad enough to start with, but add an emissions diesel to them, just makes things worse.
