I will be starting work on a new project soon that has a full tank of 4 year old gas. What does one do with about 12 gallons of nasty varnish? I would just dump it somewhere, but I live in a trailer park and someone would notice. And it would kill my grass and stink. The city I live in has told me to dump used antifreeze and other chemicals down the storm drain, but I don't feel right doing that. Anyone have some ideas?

Perhaps it can be recycled with used oil?

I find it astonishing that a city would tell you to violate the Clean Water Act.

Stick it in your truck and burn it. It will work just fine. You might not want to put it all in at one time but it won't hurt the truck.

Don't stick it down the drain.

The city told you to dump antifreeze down the stormdrains? Holy hell your city is a moron. But to your question. Auto parts stores can recycle some used fluids, though probably not fuel I suppose. How bad is the old gas? If it's still in somewhat decent condition you could use it in a lawnmower or weedwacker. Better yet just keep it. Use it as a solvent for cleaning up grease. Only other way to get rid of it is to put it in a sealed container and take it out with the garbage. Doesn't seem like the best method but that's what they say to do with used antifreeze.

when i have old 2 stroke mix from the dirt bike i just toss it in the truck with a 1/2 tank.

DO NOT mix it with used oil. If you plan to take the oil somewhere, dont mix anything with it except atf, gear oil, cutting oil, etc. You cant mix antifreeze or anything else with oil and vis versa.

Find a Hazdarous Waste Managment Facilty to take it to. Do not dump it down any drain or storm drain. Not only is it wrong, its against the law, no matter the city in the US.

If worse comes to worse, use it for something. Latern, grill, camp fire, lawn mower, automotive, etc.

I had to do something similar when my dad pumped 20gallons of gasoline in his diesel truck. 25gallons worth of fuel was taken caren of by the HazMat.

The question was about bad gasoline, not antifreeze.

Antifreeze can often be recycled alongside used oil, but certainly not mixed in with it. Antifreeze is not a petroleum distillate. Everything else mentioned is.

Gas is expensive, just throw a couple gallons in your DD every time you fill. Every second tank make sure and splash in some injector cleaner as well. I did, I have not noticed any adverse effects.

It will burn in your truck. It's not the same as leaving it in your fuel system for 4 years.

Antifreeze containers used to say, as early as ten years go to dispose of by pouring it into a sewer.

if you are dead set against using it and can't figure out anyplace to get rid of it then just let it evaporate out of an open container. I would imagine it would cause far less harm this way than dumping it on the ground or down a sewer.

I am not sure how bad it is yet, haven't drained the tank, but it smells godawful. It has been sitting in the gas tank of my old car since 2004. The local place that recycles oil asks if there is any gas in the jugs you bring in, if so they won't take them.

I couldn't believe that the city told me to dump stuff down the storm drain either. I had about 6 gallons of antifreeze and a couple more of everything from oil to parts cleaner solvent that I took to the landfill for recycling. The guy there said they don't take it and that the city usually just says dump it down the drain. Called the city office and they said talk to the landfill.
