i have a 91 ranger. i have talked to a couple of people on here before about putting a sbc in a ranger. i can get a 350/350 trans for 300 bucks. i dont know if i can put a sbc in a ford. i love fords but i cant afford a 302. Everyone wants an arm and a leg for them. So i want to here what people think about putting sbc in fords. i am a cross between them.:icon_confused:

Why not? Its still a v8 ranger, and therefor, awesome.

been done....just do it...you will hear some bashing very soon....good luck!

I don't see why not, it's your truck, and if you post pictures of the build, everyone can voice their opinions as you go along. Some will be positive, some will be negative but most will be helpfull. good luck.

Go for it. I have owned my ranger for 14 yrs with the lame 2.9. I am tired of having no power and an engine with a poor management system. I have been a licensed mechanic for years working on all the brands, and I wanted the best bang for my buck. So over the past few months I have been gathering parts. This weekend I start the transplant. 5700 Vortec with a 4L80 trans.

Use what you have, a real custom is that. Not brand specific.

If I did not want a load of power just reliability I would have used a Volvo B230FT

cry away you dye hard ford lovers :bawling:

make a trip out to indiana and i have a 302 and aod with less than 80k on the piar with a weiand high rise holley 600 and chrome valve covers for 500

and yeah the b230ft is a badass motor. i had one in volvo 940 turbo

i am about to take the drivetrain out of a k5 blazer and put into my 01 ranger....

good i am glad to see support thank you very much

It's just metal, rubber, and plastic. The name stamped on those parts doesn't mean a single thing.

My dream drivetrain is still a vortec 4.3 in my ranger with toy landcruiser axles

:icon_rofl: I think it's retarded. :icon_rofl: Where are you shopping for 302's ? I've never found them any more costly that a SBC. They do usually smoke a 350SBC in a heads up race around here, even though the 350 has a 50 cube advantage over a 302 Ranger.

302 have been going for about 400-500 for just the motor. then 200-300 for the tranny. very rare do you see both for 500 bucks but by the time i get to them they are sold, they dont hang around very long.

i'm not necessarily against corssbreading, but if you can get a 350/350, throw that thing in a CJ or a wrangler. way more room to work on it and a ton less weight, that thing would move.

Hey olranger,

I have researched a lot of sites for info and it is hard to find. It seems that if you post for help on putting a 5.7 in a ranger that aside from about 2 or 3 guys on this site, that all you are going to get is a bunch of crap on why not to do it. Now keep in mind a lot of the guys that say no have catalog trucks, so who cares. I am still in the middle of mine and the 5.7 will fit. I have decided like one of the other guys to move my firewall back. From what i can tell this is not a must. I want too run the factory vortec injection system, serpentine system and A/C. I am running the old vet ram horn center dumps since they are the best cast 2 1/2 option. (daily driver do not want headers and the leaks/ rot) There are better options for ease of install but you will sacrifice flow.

Go ahead. Put that combo in there and let 'er fly. Crossbreeding in a hot rod truck is perfectly acceptable. Chvlfrk has done a few of these and his trucks are plenty quick.
