Actually I pushed my 98 Ranger outside to clean the garage because its not quiet running yet and I rolled the windows up and locked the doors because of the weather, then I realized I dont have a door key ,just ignition key.
Has anyone used a slim jim on their Ranger and how did you do it?
Do I need to pull upward or push down. I cant get it so any advice would be appreciated so I dont have to call the lock smith and spend stupid money.
Thanks :black_eye:

I thought that 98 and up Rangers used the same key for the door and the ignition? I know my 2000 does...

If you have AAA, you can call them, they'll usually come out and open it for you for free.

There's other methods too, but the admin tend to not be happy about discussing such things on an open forum and I can't say I blame them.

if you have a slider stick a butter knife in between both sliders and push the clip out passed locked possion and push sliders apart,

The new sliders don't work that way, they're more resistant to forcing... though if you know what you're doing, it can be done.

when working w/ Auto Rescue, I used an air bag to pry the door apart a little, and then a high tech coat hanger to either pull the handle, or we had on with a tightening loup to pull up on the door nipple.

Its a buch to pull the nipple on Fords. Get a small person and try the slider if you have to

Unless your doors or ignition switch have been changed, one key works both.

You can get a key cut at your local Ford dealer for around $13 off the VIN, but ONLY if it has original ignition switch & door locks.

GOOD LUCK!

That's why I changed mine. The guy I bought my Ranger off of went to college in the next town over, so I changed them both so nobody knew I had the same truck.

Oh, and I like having a separate door and ignition key. I have both now and am quite happy.

if you have electric locks the best way is to pry the door open a alittle bit at the top and get a coat hanger in there to hit the button. did that on a friends explorer. i got the slider open on my 97 pretty easily too.

dont forget the antena through the hole under the door handle. Theres a vid of a guy on you tube doing it that way in 5 seconds

I pretty sure that was the one mentioned earlier that shouldnt be mentioned^

Everything has a downside too...

This has just let aLOT of theives know about the trick.

It is one of them...

The logic behind it is that this site sees a TON of traffic, and someone intent on breaking in to RBVs for illegal purposes may be one of them. It's bad enough the answer is found elsewhere. We don't need to be promoting it on a public forum too.

People who want to steal aren't going to be stopped (or even slowed down) by somebody here not posting information on a random internet forum. If they just want to rob the truck, they bust a window. It's not that hard or that loud and it's faster than any other method.

You want security? Drive a shitheap with nothing inside worth stealing. And paint it pink so nobody carjacks it. And only keep $5 of gas in the tank.
