Yep...either small turbo diesel or direct injection gasoline engine...something so I can have 200 hp/200 lb-ft and still manage 30+ mpg. I want to be able to tow a 3k lb trailer (regardless of transmission choice) or haul 1000-1500 lbs in the bed.
Make a small reliable 4 cylinder gas engine available for fleet sales and a largish or forced induction V6 for a sporty model, like a mini-Lightning or Toyota tacoma X-runner with either a 6 speed manual or a multi-mode automatic. It doesn't have to be off-the-charts fast like the GMC Cyclone/Typhoon, but no one's feelings would be hurt if it was.
Make a 4 door available, but not with the stupid 4 foot bed, put a decent 6 foot bed on it, despite the overall length of the truck.
