oil pump pickup ???

is the oil pump pickup supposed to cover what i am assuming is the pressure relief valve on the pump where the pickup bolts to it?it's a high volume pump you would think not.the motor originally had a front sump pan and now it's a dual sump with the rear sump pickup if that makes any difference.

Same pump for all applications, the pickup tubes are the only difference. For the rear sump pickup tube, you'll also need the stud headed main bolt for the pickup tube support.

when i bolt the pickup to the pump it covers the the pressure relief valve at the end of the pump inlet. is that right??

Yea I think so, been awhile since I looked at one though.

I looked at a pic of one, there's usually a notch in the pickup's flange where the relief valve is, but the valve doesn't pop out on relief, it bypasses internally.

yes it does cover the hole. I just finished replacinc oil pump and pick up tube. I am having hell getting motor and tranny to line up. I'm going to pull the u joints and replace them and hook the tranny back up that way. motor will sit in engine bay with no prob.

easiest way to align the motor and transmission is use four long small block head bolts with the heads removed, then smooth the cut off ends, use these, 2 per side in the bellhousing bolt holes. Get the engine in, line up your new studs in the bellhousing holes and slide the engine into place. One man job.
