Well.... my 2.9l started ticking, only for the first 3-5secs after start up,and inbetween shifts after 3000rpm.
It wont do it after it is warm, only when it is cold.... im almost sure it is my oil pump.
I just got a set of real gauges not that s#!t ford puts in there(normal) and just wanted to know if anyone has real gauges and could tell me about what pressure my 2.9l should be running at?(idle and high rpm)
I will be installing the gauges tomarrow. thanks.:icon_cheers::beer::headbang:

From the tech article on the 2.9L
20psi @ warm Idle
55psi @ 2000rpm

The oil pump is almost never the source of low oil pressure.

Low pressure simply means that the clearance somewhere is excessive and isn't getting sufficient flow volume to satisfy all the leaks.

Yes, i know most of the time low oil pressure is due to worn cam/main bearings past spec..... but i had a 91F250 with a 302fi did the same thing, installed a new pump and it was fixed.

Also, when i did the lower intake gasket i noticed some build up thinking someone that owned it before i did ran it low....a few times. but hey its worth a try, just need to keep it running another month then i will be starting the 5.0l swap.

and thanks again for the info.

Ok!
Heres what i got.
30-39psi@900rpm (warm)
48-50psi@2000rpm

So looks like im in the green, hmmm will have to do some research.

Fram is junk. I'd start by swapping it to a Purolator, Motorcraft or Napa Gold filter. I recall at least one other person who's ticking went away after they got rid of the Fram.

I agree, Fram is junk. When I switched in a Motorcraft filter, the ticking went away. The ticking is back though, probably because the oil is getting too thin from all this warm weather.

How warm is warm?

When I startup cold I get around 60-65psi when accelerating before shifting (5-speed). I don't know the exact RPM, but I would say no higher than 3K.

When sitting fully warm 190-195 degrees, I have a mechanical temp guage too) the oil PSI drops down to between 17 and 20 PSI.

Don't want to steal your thread, but I have a question about installing an oil temp gauge. When I replaced my oil pressure sender switch, I had to remove the motor mount since it was in the way. Did you guys have to remove it when you put in a sender for an oil pressure gauge? Thanks.

No, not on either of my 2.9s... kind of hard to get to, yes, but didn't remove the motor mount...
