well i had a bad oil filter, it was a fram extended gaurd. so got new one and truck is runnin good. so glad it wasent the pump. thanks to all that had some input. mike

dude, NEVER run a fam filter on a ford, they are too restrictive for ford oiling systems, especially on the 2.9, run a purolator or some other brand, i experienced a 5psi jump in pressure at idle when i changed from a fram filter to the purolators

Thanks for posting the results. There are all too many bad experiences with fram filters and IMO everyone should know.

Never put a Fram on ANYTHING you care about, purolator, wix, fleetgaurd and motorcraft are good filters.

Funny, I run nothing but Fram Tough Guards on everything I own, and never had a problem.

The "toughgaurds" are said to be decent but Fram has a bad history in recent years, there was a website that had reviews on all the filters but it appears to no longer be up. Frams are made with cardboard end caps, crappy filter media and the stamped steel bypass spring.

I think we can all agree that they're junk, even I've had oil pressure issues using a Fram filter, even on a freshly rebuilt engine. I thought I F'ed something up because the low pressure just happened suddenly one morning, changed the filter to a Napa brand (closest at the time), and it went back to normal. I've run Motorcrafts ever since. Frams are not good for 2.9Ls. However, I ran one in my SBC without issue.

go here and take a good look around. fram is junk (just thought id say it again) but napa is a good filter, they are made by wix (dana) and thats what i use. ill sometimes use bosch filters, but napa filters are a little cheaper.

Thats interesting, i think i'm going to go back to the wix filters
