So I've determined that I'm probably going to have to replace the timing chain. Unfortunately, the oil pan needs to be removed in order to take the timing chain cover off. Chilton's says I need to raise the motor and put a couple pieces of 2x4 under it where the mounts are. Is this necessary or would I be able to get away without having to raise the motor?

Second question: does the notch on the crank pulley indicate TDC when lined up with the pointer or does that indicate 10* BTDC (where base ignition timing is set)?
