I have my motor torn down to the short block. The last thing I need to address is the oil pan. There is no distributor or anything from the top end of the motor to interfere lifting the motor up enough to remove the pan. I have the exhaust manifolds unbolted from the motor as well. The book tells me that I still need to remove the starter as well as the exhaust manifold to the y pipe. I recall reading on this forum a posting on removing the oil pan that did not require removing all the parts that the book calls for.
