My 3.0L oil pan drain plug has a tiny leak. Just enough to always see a droplet hanging off the drain plug. I tried a new Dorman replacement drain plug with a built in O-ring to no avail. I tried teflon tape on the threads but no improvement. Finally I installed a new 14 mm copper crush washer which may well work once cinched up tight.

I think this drain plug with copper crush washer needs just a bit more tightening but do not wish to strip out the threads.

Anyone know a recommended torque for that drain plug?

Usually drain plugs are 90in/lb, so 7-8ft/lb, snug

It could be a leak from higher up that is collecting at the plug!

12 pack carton cardboard makes reasonably good gaskets. That's what I use on the homemade transmission plug in my truck.

Gasket paper costs less than a 12 pack of beer...

But beer doesn't come inside the gasket paper package, so if the point is buying gasket paper then yes it cheaper
If the point is buying beer then no, it does cost more but the "gasket paper" is free in that case, so costs less

I'll have to try that. I tried an aluminum crush washer on the Fun50 and it leaks worse than nothing at all.

But perhaps it's always leaking because he drinks 12 beers before trying to put the drain plug back on? :icon_idea:

Small bead of Permatex Ultra Black sealant at the bolt's (drain plug's) shoulder?

Unidentified bozos stripped a neighbor's oil pan and it leaked. I used the PUB to seal the plug and added a Fumoto valve at the next oil change.
1) It worked
2) Yes, I always wanted to "do" a Fumoto....plus I got to go to their HQ in Manhattan!
Not as impressive as The Strategic Air Command inside the Colorado Rockies but still cool.

Chilton's says 16-25ftlbs, I am usually around 20-25ftlbs for that size fastener.

I tighten it with a wrench... until its tight...

Oooh, I like that. I had never heard of a Funmoto but that I must do! Now, which Funmoto do I buy?

The torque on the Fumoto is not much, so make sure the drain plug seat on the pan is not damaged. Also, I bought the plastic locking clip, if you use quicky oil change shops be careful that they replace the clip AND seat the valve fully.

I do my own oil changes. But, again, with Funmoto? 14mmx1.5?
