What is the actual function of the oil level sensor on the 1993 ford 4.0 is the wiring really necessary or can I just cut the. Off and leave the sensor in the sump to plug the hole?

If you disable the low oil sensor and start your engine you will reset the Mayan calendar and avert the apocalypse that is supposed to occur on 21/12/2012. This will disappoint many of us who are actually looking forwards to living in postapocalytia and we will send zombies to deal with you.

On a more serious note. Is it actually broken or leaking oil? AFAIK it only turns on the idiot light in the dash if you run know on oil or are performing serious off camber maneuvers in the trails. But I could be wrong.
