im getting ready to fire up my 94 3.0l soon and i still need to adress one thing, my oil level sensor. when i rebuilt my engine the oil pan had rusted out pretty bad, so i ordered a new oil pan from work. when it arrived it was a perfect match except for the rear main sealing surface, which had some gnarly wrinkles from the stamping/ forming process and QC never caught it. no big deal, the warehouse had 6 more so i got another one coming for the next morning. long story short, i had to order every oil pan our company had in all of its warehouses (over 20 warehouses in 3 states) before i got one that didnt have this wrinkled defect. unfortunately it was a pan that didnt have a oil level sensor hole but i figured id cross that bridge when i got there, and here i am. will not having a sensor in that hole cause my motor not to start or is my computer not that smart? ive heard from other people that i can find out what resistance that the sensor puts out and just wire in a resistor from radio shack of the appropriate resistance to trick the computer into thinking there is a signal. what are your guys thoughts? im hoping to fire this truck on sunday or monday and all help is appreciated.

the engine will run with the sensor removed/unhooked...your oil light will be on.

you dont need a resistor to turn the light off, just short the two terminals in the sensor harness.

theres only 1 wire running down to the sensor so should i just hook it to the head as a ground? or do i need to pull the harness apart further and see if there is another wire in there?

if theres only one wire then the sensors ground was the other end of the circuit. with the sensor unhooked, turn the key on. if your oil level light is on then ground the wire. if not then leave it be.

well i fired my 3.0 up for the first time last night after waiting almost a year to hear it run, and to my surprise the oil light didnt come on and everything went smooth. well,,, except for that one of my cylinders is misfiring and i got a bad exhaust leak on my passenger side y-pipe to manifold joint. i also got something wrong when i installed my electric temperature gauge becuase that thing pegged itslef out at 250 pretty fast but the dash was reading like it should? either way, its all just little stuff and im just glad it runs and i dont have to go back and take care of that oil level sensor! thanks wicked sludge
