hi guys i need some help i have a 90 rang with the 2.9 my oil level sender is leaking bad cant seem to find one do i really need it if i just disconnect it will it trip any check engine lights or what i would just rather get rid of it and plug the hole any help would be appt

What exactly is leaking on it? There are several O-rings on that unit. If one of those is the culprit you may be able to just replace the ring and have a fix.

unplugging it wont stop it from leaking. i need a new one myself. cracked it when i was reinstalling my engine. i havent been able to find one either.

adsm08 i dont know where its leaking from i took it out and put some teflon on the threads but its still leaking its ass off but now that u said there is an oring i will be going to take a look at that thanks . for the other guy if i take it out and put a plug in the hole it wont leak because it will not be there i wanted to know if i eliminate it alltogether will it cause the cel to come on .

thanks pete thats all i need to know then i am just going to get rid of it

The oil light will come on though.

my 1988 evtm says that you only have a light associated with the pressure switch if your gauge cluster has a tach. Not sure about the gen-ii dashes though.

The level sensor can trip the Check Oil light in the info center. My old 2.9 used about a quart every 2500 miles or so. I'd get 3/4 through the way through an OIC and the light would come on. I put a quart in and it went out.

Also, think about this logically. What is the point of having the sensor if it has no way to notify you when whatever it monitors is out of range?

Have you tried the Ford Dealer? They usually charge more for parts than a parts house but I have found some parts for my '87 at the dealer I couldn't get anywhere else.
