So I just replaced the oil sending unit because It stopped reading. Now with the new one it reads a little high(between the a and l) if I turn on anything(Lights, blower) the gauge will move up about half a letter. It never did this with the old sender( Before it dies) Any Idea?

PS All grounds seem to be okay. The oil pressure gauge is the only one ding this. If I unhook it it does stop reading and with is unhooked turning on different things makes no difference at that point.

I don't know about 93 gauges. If the gauge always read in one spot, then it isn't really reading pressure as it should change lots hot, cold and with RPM.

I know on the newer ones like the 99 Ranger we have it is a fake gauge wired to a switch with fixed resistors to make it read in the center.

Is the sending unit a 1 wire unit? If so it get the ground thru the block. Putting too much Teflon tape on (can't remember if the unit already had a sealer on the threads or not) could affect the connection between sensor and the block which might explain the change. Even if it is a pressure transducer, if the return is going thru the block it could be the same sort of problem.

Also if it is just a switch, the needle position really doesn't make a difference. The switch is either open or closed since when you disconnect it drops to zero it still is serving the purpose cause it is obvious if there is pressure or not even if the needle doesn't precisely sit in the same spot all the time while running.

Your post was difficult to read through but if the question is about the stock oil sender unit there is a article in the tech library. And yes it's a false gauge. Either mod it or add an aftermarket one.

Ya not the best wording. basically what I am asking is after replacing the sending unit the gauge reads very high. And if I turn on the head lights the gauge needs jumps up higher a little bit. Any one have this happen?

Okay, now I've notices that the oil pressure gauge goes higher as I turn on thing like the blower and lights. I am thinking bum ground some where.
