I gotta say, I've used Fram for years, and never had any issues with my 4.0.

If the Fram design is really flawed, wouldn't they modify it?

as long as there is a demand for a product, it will continue to exist. just because people buy fram doesnt automatically make it a good product. it just means fram has an excellent advertising department (and an "in" with wally world).

ive used fram tough guard in the past and never had problems.
lets says 1 in 50 motorcraft filters are junk and 1 in 49 Fram filters are junk. ill get the motorcraft just so that elimnates one more potential problem.

Are they worth it?
Do you really care about 10 micron filtration?
Are the engine clearances even that tight?
Use synthetic oil and a motorcraft filter and you will be okay.
K&N does not increase your HP 10%.
Maybe in a diesel (extreme cases)??

If a thread isn't interesting to you, stay out of it. I personally think most of the threads under Lowriders are boring. Does that mean they should all be locked?


Anyway...
Does anyone on here go to school and/or have access to any fluid labs? It would be interesting to do a flow-rate analysis on a couple of filters.

He's referring the the TV ads for their air filters, which claims an up to 10% HP increase.

EDIT: I switched my Fram out for a Motorcraft today. The Motorcraft was $0.40 more. I compared the two filters side by side for a bit, and examined the inside as well as I could. The Motorcraft appeared to be better made. It had a higher quality gasket and larger holes for better flow. But the Fram did not look poorly made. Like I said, I have ran Fram for years on many cars, but you guys have scared me. I'll pay the 40 cents more.

NAPA sells WIX oil filters, and no..no problems. WIX has been one of the more popular filters for years. I think the same company that makes Puralator makes WIX.

wix is its own company. i think purolator is too, but im not sure on that.

Correction WIX is made by DANA/WIX its own company. Puralator also makes its own line, rebadged to BOSCH/Motocraft, sorry bout that.

Yesterday I went to one of the larger local automotive supply places here in town and I was surprised that they tried to give me a Fram filter, in fact that's all they had. Went to Napa and bought one of theirs. I'll report later if I notice any difference.
