oil filter

maybe its because its a truck and since trucks see heavy loads they get more contaminates in the oil. at least thats why trucks have larger oil capacities to handle more contamination and heat

the oil filter on my old 80 chevy was smaller and it was a 350 and the filter for my dads 2008 silverado 4.8 is smaller too. i was just wondering cuz i thought it was odd. thats all

Pretty much all the older ford engines used the FL-1A oil filter (you can also use the FL-1HP as well if it is a high performance set up, and was used on the big blocks)

GM has always used smaller filters...don't know why. Ford still uses bigger filters. The bigger the filter, the more filter element inside. Increased oil capacity is another plus as well.

GM has always used smaller filters? On Chevy's anyway (older ones) they used the PF-25 which was smaller but the trucks always used the PF-35 which holds a quart, same as a Ford filter. I always used the PF-35 on my cars.

Yea, ok so not all the old chevys use a small filter. Some of the new ones are just ridiculous tho. The new big block pickups use filters the same size as a damn honda civic.

No kidding about the small filter on some Chevs. We had a 6.0 some in for a Maintenance one a little while ago and when I looked it up in the X-Referee book I could believe it took an FL-793. That is a ridiculously tiny filter considering all the modular take an FL-820, which for those who don't know it about an inch taller and roughly 1.5" wider.

If you really want a smaller filter on your truck you can always put an FL-400S on it. They are a direct fit in place of the FL-1A.

i refuse to look a gift horse in the mouth. i'll take the FL-1A and keep on truckin'!!
just my $.02.

Agreed, but if Ford ever discontinues the 1A I'll slap a smaller 400 on there before I start using aftermarket filters.
