Oil filter relocation???

What if I use a steering box that mounts outside the frame. I think there is a late 70's that will bolt on outside the frame. That gives me more room between the frame rails, use stock filter location and use the stock steering linkage. What do you think? Any links that may help?

It would work, but I would rather just move the filter.

The filter is a matter of a few bucks, and 2 or three screws to hold the filter portion. It really doesn't get any easier.

Steering boxes are very expensive around here.
Sounds like a great deal of work to rethink it all, and I'm not sure a filter would clear the frame, anyway. The short ('95 Cobra and others...) filter may fit once the steering box was removed. I can take a look tomorrow if you like.

I see. I found 2 of the old steering boxes that go out side the frame rail at the local scrap yard. Got both for under $20. I will bolt it on and see how the stock filter location looks and go from there. Looking at your pic I should have lots of room.

Do you have a straight axle? I'm curious now about steering linkage.

I have a full width Dana 44 from a late 70's. I am gonna try the steering I now have this weekend and hopfully I will have clearance for the oil filter.

After looking at it earlier, the short filter would definitely fit without an adapter, and without a steering box, on my truck with the Mustang motor mounts.
