Well as the title says oil is coming out my dipstick, but only does it after the engine is fully warmed up. Ive checked the PCV valve (its new) and the oil cap/breather is clear of obtructions. Its enough oil that its able to get onto my Y-pipe and smoke and cover it with oil. Ive checked that its not my rear seal or my oil pan gasket. I would hate for it to get to my clutch somehow, thats also new.

Mine does the same thing. It's blow by coming out of the dipstick. 2.8's are notorious for that. It can sometimes be helped by replaced your valve stem seals. they are rubber and wear out easily. The replacement kit is like 23 bucks at Auto Zone. I've got to do it soon too. My blow by is getting so bad I had to make a catch can for it. There is a write in the tech forum on how to do it.

Sounds serious you should go see a doctor about it haha. can you put a o-ring on the dipstick?

Mine never had any noticable blow by 'til I change the valve stem seals. Then I started getting the oil accumulation in the air cleaner and the dip stick blow by and the snot on the dip stick. I just keep driving it. Mine doesn't drip yet at the dip stick

I have had similiar problems with blowby in the past. I took the pcv out of the loop. Just put a direct vac into the pcv hole and the internal pressure should be eased. If you stop up the dipstick hole the pressure will push oil out the rear main seal.

This engine never did this until now, after it was swapped into my truck, never did it in my dads truck. BJ I'll try your idea and see what that does, I'm tired of worring about my engine lossing to much oil and causing mechanical problems. I havent even got either of the oil guages hooked up yet, going with one that tells me the pressure, mechanical one I should say.

Years and years ago, my PCV crapped out (as in literally fell apart) in the middle of a blizzard at my dad's shop. I scalped one off of an old 400 V-8 he had sitting around to just get me home. It worked fine for quite awhile, then last summer I got the brainy idea to get the right one for it while I was tuning it up. As you might remember my thread where I was about to right it off after that, it wouldn't keep oil down for nothing. It would turn into a billowing mess going down the road. Then out of curiosity I stuck the older than old 400 PCV back on and the problem went away. So I pulled it back off to see what the difference was and the thing opens up about 3 times as far as the new one for a 2.8. :icon_thumby:

The valves should seal the upper end up without relying on the valve seals, the biggest cause of blowby is rings (or lack-there-of)

That's a good tip about the PCV off the 400 V8. I am putting that is service NOW!!!!!

I'm going to go look up that PCV now for the 400 on autozone, mine shoots out enough oil going down the road its on my rear axle!!!!!!!!

ok, i might try that as well. which model/year Ford 400 should i be going for?

The engine came out of a '80 F-350. The PCV is a Motorcraft, so knowing how the truck was maintained before we got it... it wouldn't surpise me at all if it was original.

BTW, it might help it wasn't a new one I put on. Dunno if it is anything specific with it and no research went into it, just what was available in a pinch... so no guarentee's.

Mine never really spit out much more than the manifold could burn off... if you are spitting it out enough to get on your rear axle you might have bigger problems than a simple PCV swap can fix.

I had an 87 Wrangler once that had so much blowby that I had to put TWO vac hoses into the valve cover to get it to stop blowing oil out the rear main seal.
Sold it to a guy that gave it to his 16 year old son.. He called me within a month and told me his son had blown the engine.. When they get that worn ya have to take care of them.

This is all a bandaid. If you have enough blow-by for this to be a problem it is you need to start working on a backup plan if you plan on keeping the truck.

Mine has quite a bit of smoke out the tail pipe too... which is why I don't drive it much anymore.
