I was up under my truck the other day locating O2 sensors.... and noticed that my oil pan is coated with oil... the whole underside. I checked my oil level, and its where it should be.... but i cant explain all the oil thats somehow leaked out, or where its coming from.... I dont have any oil spots on the driveway after i park it either... so it not dripping.... any ideas?

Maby from past oil changes when taking off the filter?

mud, gunk and grime from the road maybe? i know when my power steering pump was leaking it gunked everything up down there.

sounds like its seeping from the gasket

Agreed its not a huge worry unless its a steady stream because its about 20 hours of work getting that ****ing gasket replaced idk whats more valuable to you a weekend or a couple drips of oil every day also do you use vaseline on your oil filters? helps a lot with leaks for your next oil change just gunk a few big glops all around the seal on the filter if any gets in it will just break down in your oil.

I agree, that gasket is a complete bitch, just think of this seepage as your ranger's way of naturally protecting itself from rust :)

Yes, but 4.0 oil pans are cast aluminum...

So? It will work it's way back to the rest of the truck that isn't made of aluminum eventually.

Dont laugh, the 302 and 351w truck oil pans eventually rust out and leak.

Could be a number of things, oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, rear main seal.

Either way id check the pcv valve to make sure its doing its job.
