have an old sled....71 ski doo...trying to get it started...now it is time for fuel....what is the oil to fuel mix?

most older 2 strokes reccomend a 20:1 or 25:1 mix.

if you buy synthetic 2 stroke oil you can usually get away with 30:1 just fine.

We run Amsoil 100:1 oil at 80:1 in our bikes, chainsaw (must be 15 years old), leaf blower, and weedeater. Cuts way down on the stink and smoke. I'd probably run 50:1 (using Amsoil) in an engine that old.

ID USE A 32 to 1 to a 40 to 1 ratio.. depending on how tight the top end is is..

But you still need enough lube to save the bearings in the case and the crank.

And plus a million on the amsoil.. Torco gp7 isent to bad.

Castor oils tend to foul plugs and get gummy if you let it sit in the case just an fyi. Amsoil and Torco are both synthetic..

torco is supposed to make some excellent stuff. ive heard mainly about their 75w140 non synth gear oil, my buddy tells me it's got the film strength of pine pitch, lol

now here is a question....it is getting spark and runs with starting fluid....but not bery long.....but after it runs for as sec or so..it dies and wont start agian evan with starting....sounds like a carb re-build?..

id look at the carb, float gummed up, needle valve stuck just take it apart on a clean rag where you cant lose parts and clean it all up, does it use reeds?:icon_cheers:

if its a single cylinder it won't have reeds, when I had mine i had the same problem and it turned out to be water had gotten into the carb and popped a welch plug loose. I ran 20:1 and I could run it for almost two seasons on one plug. it was a tank, slower than death but fun to ride.

U GOT A stuck main needle, its the big one in the center of im assuming a slide carb. take the bowl off pull the c clip off the main carefully and clean with carb cleaner. or pull the carb and bowl and clean the hell out of it with cleaner.

than check the reeds for springyness and cracks. its the triangle shaped dilly in the intake right after the carb.. but hell if its a 71 it probably does not have reeds. if youcan see the sleeve and ports thought the intake don't worry u don't have a reed set.

and go get a RATIO-RITE to mix ur fuel.. there real nice..
