Someone asked a while back about comparing the 4.0 OHC vs OHV from someone who had owned both. I have owned both a 99 king cab XLT and an 07 king cab XLT. Both were equiped almost exactly alike. Automatics, 4.0, 4wd, 245x16 tires, the only differance was the 99 had 4.10 gears and the 07 had 3.73. Not a big differance but still a differance. To me, the 99 was stronger from idle to top speed. The 07 drives smoother and a little more relaxed, but, in passing I need some room to make a safe pass with the 07. Pulling a trailer feels easier with the 99.
No doubt in my mind that the OHV with smaller ports is making more torque.
One better then the other, not really. Just my thoughts.
For me and what I do with a truck, both 99 and 07 were great.

I saw this in another thread, somebody said that Will posted it. It does look line the OHV has slightly more torque between 1000RPM-1500RPMs:

Which is right where your RPM sits when doing many types of wheelin. For example, when rock crawling your RPM ranges between 900-1200RPM.

i think those trucks would have both done better if you had swapped the gears from one to the other.

Personally for a wheeler/towing, I'd choose the 4.0 OHV. For a street truck, I'd choose the SOHC.

I believe you're right about swapping the gears. For the OHC anyway. The 4.10 would make up a little bottom end and the Cammer would rev a little higher. It would be better all around. Just my thoughts.
Thanks for the graph.
