Official current Ranger production ending 2011

You guys need to look at this positively. Ford also canned the Explorer Sport Trac.

http://www.carguideweb.com/articles/8354/

And the keyword for the title of this thread is "current Ranger" meaning current design.

If ford keeps doing like they have with the Focus and the Fiesta, we will get the European/Mexican/etc version of the Ranger with optional CREW CAB!!!!

Here is some spy shots:

In detroit:

I saw pics of the same camo'd truck in California, unable to find the link, though.
There's aso tons of spy shots of the 2012 Ranger overseas, but that might not be the exact version we get. Check out the bt-50 or thr t-6.

I'm sure these are all reposts, but it all adds up when you put it together.

guess that's ok for some, but i need a small truck with a real bed on it. 4 doors just doesn't do it for my needs. but, that 's just me.

ive got 3 rangers now. my neighbor on one side has 2 and my neighbor on the other side has 1. i fix all of them. id be devestated if they dropped the ranger line completely and would look into having one imported from new zealand or something. id like a diesel 2 door 6 or 7 foot bed with a 5 speed and possibly 4x4. dream truck for me right behind the jeep cj8 :) i think i just got sticky thinking about the scrambler.

I would love a diesel too, but not with the stupid emmisions that would be on it- a soot "incinerator" and other hokie-ass junk that will kill the power and MPG.

I hope any new Ranger looks like the awesome European ones. Completely different body.

I have a feeling that if there is another truck re-branded Ranger, it's not going to be of the same quality of the trucks we are used to. I mean, it would be called Ranger, but it most likely wont build the same legacy as the pre-2012 trucks.

I also read an article saying something like Ford is trying to move commuter Ranger owners towards the Focus or Fiesta... To tell you the truth, I'd rather have the utility and looks of a small pickup, instead of driving a Focus/Fiesta. Also, I am happy with the size of the truck, and don't really want/need a full size truck (if the f-100 or whatever is the next choice).

The article said they sold something like 55,000+ Rangers, which seems like a pretty good number. Don't understand why they'd want to get rid of that. I could understand perhaps a major face-lift, more engine options, more features, etc, but to completely scrap the truck that has been doing very well doesn't sit right with me (or make sense).

If they rebrand another vehicle with ranger it will go the same way at the taurus. they remade it to the 500. then it was too expensive to semi replace the crown vic. no one wanted, everyone was surprised when the taurus and then they brought it back in no time. Ford has made some really starnge decisions lately with vehicles and I cant figure out who keeps telling them to do this cause they dont live in the real world, or look at stats. they are too, ambitious with the economy how it is today

As I say with every time this sorta thing is talked about.... I'll believe it when I see it.

We ALL know about the mules running around the states and in other countrys of an 'all new ranger' code named T6...SHOULD it be the North American Ranger replacement, odds are it's gonna have an all gas engine line up, a base 4cyl of some sort, the 3.7L from the mustang retuned, and the 2.0L 4cyl ecoboost as top dawg. At least that's what I hope. But judging by the new Explorer and it's engine offerings, it seems to be a possibility with a new Ranger. And heaven forbid I hope it's not a unibody like the Expo and the upcoming new Dakota! Body on frame!!!! I just hope they make just a slightly bigger one....but keeping the general small truck concept. More interior room is needed IMO.

The Taurus/500 were essentially the same car with different stickers. It wasn't the name, it was the car. Sales didn't explode until they redesigned it.

Rangers have been a tough sell at the local dealership. Mainly because unless you get the 2.3/5 speed they get the same milage as a half ton for not a lot less $$... in a 2 seater.

Same goes for the Sport Trac, they are priced too close to the Supercrew to really be effective, and they don't really offer anything that it doesn't.

I have my little '85, it is fun to play with. I wouldn't buy a new truck to do what I do with it anyway. However, if something happened to my F-150, I wouldn't be against buying a new one of those if I could...

I suspect our lineup will be exactly like this. Maybe a slight body style upgrade. As long as I can get crew cab with a 73" box, I'm down.

Probably thin out the cab-chassis models.

You can't get dit squat in them before you are over your rating, and on anything less than a 6.5' box a service body is pretty much worthless. Which is probably why they quit selling them that way in the '80's.

Yeah but if you compare that to previous years of ranger production they used to sell alot more. I think somewhere around 2000 or so they sold over 200,000 in a year. So at a 75% decrease in sales over 10 years its not very cost effective and since the nuumbers are so low they probably think that a redesign is a bigger risk then they want (even thought the mustang was down to about 50,000 sold in a year and they redesigned it and it picked right back up). The drop in sales is mostly because there hasn't been an update to the design, motors, drivetrain, interior... nothing has changed other then the body style in almost 20 years and people that already own rangers aren't just going to go out and buy a shinier more expensive version of what they already own (Not to mention the lack of options anymore).

Thats why all the talk about taking the ranger out. They need a new design... heck even if they just spent the money on putting in an eco boost type engine it would boost sales like mad because it finally gets good mileage and your not stuck with poor fuel economy.

yea, if they just offer ecobost and other engine/trans combos, like a diesel, that alone would boost sales, mabey takeing the mexican 4 door version and get it to work in america, what ever they do they better keep body on frame plus removable bed. rangers are common fleet/utility trucks, it would hurt sales if they made it into something like a honda ridgeline, it be wimpy and not as strong

It is more like 12 years since a major change.

The Mustang's drop in sales was because they were ditching a 300hp V8 and a 5 speed tranny for a 412hp V8 and a 6 speed tranny. They announced it too early and everybody waited for more power and a extra gear. Same body, pretty much the same car aside from the powertrain. They were so backlogged with the '11's it wasn't funny, it took my brother 22 weeks to get his from the date he ordered it until it rolled off the truck.

Something that nobody is realizing they may be trying to avoid that with the Ranger. Keeping it under wraps until they get the current inventory blown out, so it doesn't hurt current sales.

They are common as a fleet truck just like every other Ford truck, but just like the F-150 a full service body is too much weight for one... so like the F-150 most keep the factory bed.

Ford IS bringing out the new F-100. It will replace the Ranger for 2011. It is a smaller version of the F-150 and it will have a crew cab as well. My brother-in-law works for Ford and he said I will even like the F-100 crew cab since I don't need a bigger truck then my Ranger Supercab. I just don't need the F-150 since it is too big for my needs. If I had to haul large stuff around or pull a bigger boat all the time, I might want that and then again, I would already have the F-150. I can't wait to see the F-100 crew cabs when they come to the dealer!!

Know anything of engine and transmission possibilities? I would really hope they don't get rid of the manual transmission and more power is always good!
