Off Road Recovery points?

I have a 97 Ranger 4x4 with no recovery points....is there a way to mount some recovery hooks on the front? Any factory options?

No factory options for the front. You could get a front hitch though. There is an article in the tech library about it. If you look at the links in my sign I have two shackles up front with custom mounts and the stock bumper.

i like the front hitch idea or making some kind of crossmember to mount recovery points to, this puts (closer to) equal force on each frame rail instead of all the force on just one..

Exactly. Its always best to spread the load out but unfortunately its not always possible.

Daniel, how did you attache those d rings? I need to pull my bumper and look at the front frame rails. Are they sleeved into the frame rails or just bolted on? I like the front cross member idea with recovery points. I'm working on a few ideas, but a factory option would have been nice. This is a lot different coming from the last two decades of Jeeps where this kind of stuff is a simple bolt on.

Yes, as the replies have stated from our great members, you can mount a front receiver hitch as I did. I added a Reese 2 inch receiver to the front. You can get either a 'D' ring setup to bolt into the hitch or add a portable winch carrier as I have that I can use front and rear.

I actually bought them from a member here. They are custom brackets that are bolted to the frame with grade 8 hardware. They are mounted where the bumper bolts to the frame. Same holes and everything.

I had my bumper off and that was kinda what I was thinking...a piece of flat plate with way to bolt a hook on. shear strength though might be questionable. I only get one day a week off, so as I come up with some options that work I'll let you guys know.
