I have a question for you. I just got a 94 ranger with the 2.3L and a 5 spd. when I drive, I give it gas, accelerate like normal, but when I go to shift, it acts like the throttle is sticking and it stays reving really high. but if I press the clutch, it will rev high, and eventually go back to a normal idle. I tried cleaning the idle air control valve, and now it will drop to idle a lot sooner, but now when I go to shift, it revs higher, and will acutally accelerate. If I ride the brakes, and lug it down to where the revs are at about an idle, it will drop down to normal. It only does this when driving. If I am sitting still, it idles fine, if I hold the gas down it will rev freely and go back to a normak idle. I can try cleaning the IACV some more, there is still some black gunk in there...Is there something else I should look at?

Throttle positioning sensor is the first place I would go with this. It's also the cheaper part. If that doesn't fix it, look into replacing the IAC as well.

MY TPS has a tendency to die every 6 months and do the same thing...

WOOOHOOO!!!! Fixed my issue! I soaked the IACV in throttle body cleaner for about 30 minutes, and blasted the rest out. I also moved the little plunger in there to make sure it didnt stick. I am runnin good now. It still runs like crap if the AC is on and I am at an idle, or if it is cold. but I can save up for a replacement IACV now that I have bought myself a bit of time! Thanks for your help.
