just got a great 84 4x ranger with bad 2.8..... so i have a good 2.9 can I put the 2.8 intake and dist. on the 2.9? and make it work? or any other ideas. Thanks

no, the camshafts spin opposite directions so the gears on the end of the dizzy are cut different, the runners are in different places due to switched around valve configuration. a while back a guy around here tried to take the heads and swap them too so that it would all work.....he failed. like i said the valves were switched around so the lifters were in the wrong place too

The 2.9 L shares the same basic design as the 2.8 L model, bar a few subtle differences. The camshaft is chain-driven rather than gear driven, so it rotates in the same direction as the crankshaft. The arrangement of the exhaust valves is different, eliminating the "Hot-Spot" that existed on the 2.8 L model. The cylinder heads also sport a more conventional three-port exhaust manifold
