I take it you mean the linkage on the throttle body, The "kickdown" cable.
To be honest with you I'm not sure. My experence is that when its not connected right, it screws up 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear. It helps decypher when to shift based on how much gas you are giving it so it very well could be. Search the site for the correct adjustment. or you could always use a Haynes/Chilton's manual
If its right then, I hate to say this but, one of the 1st signs of a tranny going is the loss of OD. I hope thats not your case but I'm just saying...
