"OD OFF" Blinking.

Took off from a stop and was accelerating slowly. I believe I was in 3rd gear and stepped into the throttle and tranny shifted down into 1st instead of 2nd. Rpm's shot waaayyyyy up so I let out of the gas and then just got back up to highway speed. When I reached 60mph I noticed truck felt like it was revving too high so I looked down and was at 3000rpm. So its not going into OD. In town, the tranny feels and shifts fine but just wont go into OD. OD light started flashing about 5 miles later. Truck is a 03 FX4 4x4 and I believe is the 5REE? tranny. Any info or ideas of possible problems appreciated.

If the light is on/flashing, that means there is a tranny code (which makes sense of it is acting up) so take it to a transmission repair place and have them read. Some places do this for free to draw you to their business and let you know what's up.
