Will code P1000 self clear?

I read someplace that P1000 appears if you have cleared the codes and the truck has NOT been driven long enough for the PCM to "relearn".

I ran a scan on my 02 ranger. No codes in DTC or KOEO. I got two codes in KOER testing. P1703 and P1780. I cleared the codes and ran it again and got P1000, P1703 and P1780. I don't think I ran the tests correctly because I didn't depress the brake peddle or cycle OD switch during testing. I don't think the scanner told me to do that during the tests (it did tell me to turn the steering wheel). And, since both systems work correctly I don't think I really have a malfunction.

But I am still curious about P1000.

Thanks, Ed

If you have to ask that question you need to take the Ford Tech banner off your profile because you are either the oil change guy, or have been out of the shop so long that all you knew is irrelevant now.

Well, ADSM08, I am not a Ford Tech or ever been one; nor, the oil change guy. I am not a Ford Tech or ever been one; nor, have I ever been the oil change guy (I have changed the oil in a few jet engines in the past). I don't know where the banner came from. I did not, to the best of my knowledge, put it there. IF someone would remove it, or tell me how to remove it, I would be happy with that.

I am, however, a retired USAF aircraft/missile systems manager, that started his career as a grunt on the flight line. My original degree, earned off-duty, is in electronics technology. My last job prior to retirement was the development of the field maintenance support methodology for the USAF F-22 Raptor (https://www.google.com/search?q=f+2...urce=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=ncZDUs-NMO7gigLQ5YH4Cw). A pretty cool piece of equipment.

My degree is so old to be next to useless. However, I do know one heck of a lot about aircraft avionics systems maintenance; but, next to nothing about modern automotive systems. So when it comes to the automotive electronic systems I will, sometimes, ask questions that may seem oblivious to real Ford technicians. If that fries your sensibilities, I am really sorry.

From reading your posts I do get the impression that you really know a lot about your areas of expertise and that you do not suffer fools easily. I am much the same; but, I am counting on you and others to help me increase my knowledge in those areas you have mastered.

I am on this forum to learn from you and others like you. And in that vein a little patience will be very much appreciated.

p1000 will be present after you clear codes until you complete a proper drive cycle and all the OBDII monitors clear. Then it will no longer be present.

In that case I will try to be more helpful.

At the top of your screen go to user cp. On the left will be a bunch of links. One should say group memberships. Towards the bottom is ford tech. Uncheck that one and check us military vet if you were USAF.

OK, Got it!

So I will just clear all codes again to clear the P1703 and P1780 faults that I set by not doing the KOER test correctly and be on my way!

Thanks, Ed
