hey i have about 70000 miles on my 2004 ranger. i am going to flush cooling system soon and was wondering if with the amount of miles on the truck it would be a good idea to change the thermostat when i do this. also if it is should i get a motocraft thermostat or will any brand from my local auto parts store be ok? secondly with the milage on the truck should i replace the o2 sensors or is that not necessary? if so should i get motocraft parts or is it ok to get whatever my local auto part store carries? reason i ask if i should get motocraft parts is because some people have told me that using non motocraft for certain part replacement can cause problems. thanks, mike.

I use the "replace when parts break" method, so if your thermostat is opening at the correct temperature, and your o2 sensors are providing the correct output, why would you bother to replace them? If you don't know whether they are or not, then I'd check before you blow money on them.

Edit: based on your other thread, I have no reason to suspect your O2 sensors are not performing perfectly.

If the O2 sensor goes bad you'll get a check engline light and it'll still run just fine. If the engine is running at proper temp why sweat it. I think the tstat for these duratecs is about $100.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
There are still plenty of other things to spend your hard earned money on.
