Im in the process of doing a 2.9/4.0 conversion. The Y-Pipe from my donor Engine (98 ranger) has 2 O2 sensors. Where the Truck that its going into
(1990) has wiring for 1 O2 sensor.

My plan is to seal and weld the ports for the 2 O2 sensors and drill and weld a new bung where the 2 pipes join in the y pipe. This would eliminate the 2 O2 sensors and work with the wiring I will be using.

My question is has anyone done this before and if so did this work for you? did you run into any issues doing this?

Is using a y-pipe from an earlier model with 1 O2 sensor a better route than this one?

Yes, you can do that, seal off the two and add the one after the "Y".

Or you could leave both O2s in place and just hook up one, if the existing wire reaches, computer doesn't know or care.
But if the one bank not being monitored was lean or rich you wouldn't know.

I think ill go with the option of leaving them both in and using one (assuming my wiring does reach) if I add one after the Y and one bank happens to monitor lean or rich. computer isn't gonna know which one anyways. Glad you brought that up. Thank you for your reply RonD much appreciated
