while driving, the overdrive off light will start flashing. it is still engaged but says it is not. if I put it in neutral, rolling or stopped, turn the key off and restart the light goes out...for a while.
did this with previous-original- trans but stopped when 96 trans installed. trans has 185k+ on it (truck is at 200k)
other than putting tape over light-wife's suggestion-any cure for this annoyance?

The light flashes when the signals received from the 'turbine speed sensor' don't match the selected gear, speed over ground, engine rpm, and blork sfpiblalee, ... stuff.
I would check that you are not having slippage, or have a bad sensor. I don't know the exact trans you have, but some have a sensor that is accessible externally.
If the light is blinking something amiss has been detected, and it is not necessarily the OD gear, but that is the only visible, external mechanism available to tell you. On some transmissions you can pull error codes, but they are not remembered, again from what I have read.
The answer is generic, so anyone with more knowledge please educate...
You may be better off posting in transmission section.

Hi. IM having same problem with same trans (4r44e). when I get close to 4th gear, I can feel the pedal vibrate a little, then, OD light off starts flashing. I think it's one of the sensors or solenoids, but, cant figure out which one and don't want to just start changing parts.
thanks.

Do you people understand that lights mean codes? Go away and come back with codes.

Edward every time I have ever seen a od light flash it has been an electrical issue. Either poor connection somewhere or faulty solenoid. However it would be best to post what codes it pulled.
