I want to put a 302 in my ranger with the zf 5 speed, i was told an np205 will bolt to the back of the zf 5 but does an np205 have a cable speedometer drive on it?

yes they used cable drive speedo, not sure about the manuals but i know all the autos vere virtually the same and it bolted up except if you dont have the 205 adapter you may have to notch the adapter for shift linkage

how do i get the speedometer gear drive out of the 205 i removed the 7/16" bolt and tried pulling it out with pliers and i wouldnt move is there a trick to it, the speedo gear drive would pull right out of my borg warner t case?

grab it with vise grips and try twisting and pulling-it's just stuck.probably been there for thirty years.you will need to notch the tail housing on the zf,get a 205 gasket to use as a template.then it just bolts on,but make sure to use the outboard mount on the 205 or the weight hanging off the side will crack the tranny tailshaft housing.don't ask how i know this....

yea i already got it mounted up and made up a mount for it to take up the weight hanging off to the side, but im to the point where when i drive the truck down the road i have no speedo but i'll try yanking the speedo gear out of the tranny, and can i use the ranger speedo gear in the 205 or not?............................................................. its probably not gonna be right anyway but just figured i'd like to see just how far off it is before i take it to a speedo shop

the ranger gear will slide right in,you just need to make sure the mating gear in the t-case is the right one,as it may need to be changed.compare the speedo gear from the 205(once the bugger releases itsself)with the ranger one.you can take the gear from the 205 and put it on the ranger speedo drive to see how close it is on the speedometer reading...might be close enough to run with..
