im lookin t swap a 302 ino my ranger should i go EFI or carb and what tcase will fit can i use the bw 1350 out of it.......it a 88 4banger EFI

I went EFI on my 88 swap woth the AOD and 4x4.... What ??s do you have? If you have the engine an dharness it is fairly straight forward or should I say after you beat your head a few times and look back it was fairly easy.... :shok:

What ???'s do you have? I went with the EFI and AOD in my 88 4x4 ranger. After I look back at it it wasnt that hard. I just over analized everything and got tangled up in a wire nightmare...... If you retain your stock t/case you will need an adapter and output shaft changed in the tranny you use. As for wiring if you have the original harness with the engine it is fairly easy. Can be done either way but you deal with the Crown Vic engine and harness and the H/O engine and harness.

I would go EFI and E4OD with a model 20 or an NP205 or ......... Raptor transmissions sells an adapter to adapt a chevy transmission to a ford engine so I might even go 4L80E if the budget allowed it.

you didn't give us enough information and there are as many transmission/transfercase combos as there are members that have done a V8 swap.

what are your plans?

your stock T-case barely stands up to the engine you have ...... it will not stand up to a EFI 5.0L if you have a heavy foot.

weather its a truck engine or a car engine would also need to be asked and answered because the computers are different and the Stang engines have a much more agressive cam, timing, and computer profile.

Not really sure "barely" is the right word there. The BW1350 has been known to take a moderate V-8 without any problems. If you have a heavy foot and beat on things you can break anything you put on the truck... but it will take an expensive adapter or a non-overdrive C-4/5 mutant to get it to bolt up.

For example TRS 1 has a 1350 transfercase with a 302...

TRS-1 has a 1350 with a carbed 302, there are stock 4.0L out there that make more power.

If it was like my 302 ('78 packing 134 hp at 3400 RPM and 250 lb-ft at 1600) then you would be right... but I think a built up 1970 (pre smog) 302 will give a OHV 4.0 the thrashing of its life, and I wouldn't doubt the OHC wouldn't follow suit. With the small 1250 2bbl carb (the same size that is on my 2.8) and 8.4:1 compression the engine I have is somwhere between a 2.9 and 4.0as it sits now, it wouldn't take much to put me over the top... Jim's heads, cam and 4bbl would easily do it.

The strength difference between the 1350 and 1354 isn't a huge difference, and many 1350's live a long time behind a V-8. The big difference is the front output.

this is my plan i want to put a 302 in my 88 ranger i just dont know what to get th motor out of or if i should go with a carb or EFI my fathern in law wants me to go carb but i kind like EFI
So that brings me to the tranny what one should i use i want to use the bw1350 that is in the truck now
it is go to be just a mudd truck so im starting with motor swap at tax time so it might take a few years get ever thing i want to do done

i did the c4 /c5 combo kept the 1350 . and beat the hell out of it and no problems yet

If you want EFI, find yourself a mustang, '86-'93, and get the 5.0 and wiring harness. Or these pieces are easy to find seperately in classifieds. (ebay, craigslist, corral.net)
As far as wiring goes, it doesn't matter if the Mustang is manual or auto. Just get an O2 harness that matches the original setup.
(The Mustang harness has 3 parts, an injector harness that sits on top of the intake, the main harness that connects to the truck and to the ECU, and an O2 harness that goes to the O2 sensors. The O2 harness typically needs to match the ECU, as Pin 30 and Pin 46 [sensor signal return and nuetral safety connections] get turned around in different pins of the 2 harness' for auto or manual. For those who will nit-pic this info, you CAN use an AUTO ECU with a manual trans O2 harness, but you will lose the ability to pull codes from the self test connection. Maybe too much info at this time, lol!)

if you mean 302 yes it all bolts up can use you stock drive shafts. but the trick is building the c4/c5 you need to take and put the c5 tail shaft and adapter in to the c4 . you need to completely disassemble the tyranny's.its not hard but ........ my first attempt failed i put the wrong flex plate in and took the pump out ,i end at the tyranny shop any ways

i have never mess with a trany other then pull one out and puttin a new one in

I built my C-4 myself with a video how to......lol.It already came with the C-5 output shaft(had been in another V-8 ranger 4X4,got lucky).
It really wasnt that hard to do.
As far as the 1350 holding up,no problems here but anything will break if you try hard enough.
As far as TRS1 being weak because it has a carb V-8 compared to a 4.0 with EFI................
