Hey guys so I am having a total brain fart today, I ordered 4.88's for my 8.8 rear yesterday along with an install kit and I got a line on a lockright from a member here do I still need the notched cross pin for the carrier? :icon_confused:

I installed 4.56gears and a lockrite and didn't need the notched cross pin but ur 4.88 gears r a little widerthe mine so u might get lucky u might not. But if u need the notched cross pin I got the one I ordered new and didn't use if u need it let me.know

you're actually better off grinding the gear teeth a bit and useing a solid pin.all your drive force goes through that pin,so you want it to be as strong as possible.a little missing off a couple of ring gear teeth won't make a difference.

what gwaii said, I've got a notched crosspin I'm trying to unload too, I ground the teeth and used a stock pin.

well alright, thanks for the info guys, I will probably try it without it first and see what I can figure out, I have heard before that that becomes the weak link but didn't know what to do about using a stock one, never thought of grinding the gears.

It is such a small bit that you have to grind off the tooth that you will see why it is a no brainer to NOT use the notched pin.

And the notched pin won't engage the locker properly. FWIW it wasn't even possible to install the lock-right in my old 7.5 with a notched pin. And I still managed to break a full cross-pin, imagine how fast the notched one would have broke.

Yeah I was really wondering about the strength of the notched one and how long it would last with the taller gears, locker and possible 36" Iroks

Yet another one for grinding the gear.

I did it with my 5.13s. No issues.
